Manistee County Library is celebrating Old Time Christmas Weekend with its first Holiday Book Nook Show.
Artists, crafters and holiday enthusiasts of all ages are invited to enter.
Book nooks are models or dioramas that fit on a book shelf. You can craft a model using any supplies you might like to use. The book nook should recreate a scene from your favorite holiday story/book, movie or song. Book nooks can be created by teams, families, pairs or individual artists.
After you turn in your book nook, our team of elves will attach mini fairy lights to your entry so it will be extra merry during Old Christmas Weekend — December 5 – 6.
All book nooks will be on display during Old Christmas Weekend. The public can tour the show during library business hours and vote for their favorite book nook. Best in show will be awarded a $50 gift card to Meijer.
Here’s what you need to know before you enter:
- The library is supplying participants with premade boxes that measure 9″ (wide), 9″ (long) and 8″ (deep). The models must be made using one of the boxes supplied by the library– no outside boxes are allowed for entry.
- To reserve a box, please be sure to sign up here on the website and pick up your cardboard box between Nov. 3 and Nov. 19 at Manistee Main Library. Limit 2 boxes per household.
- You can use whatever supplies and tools you have to create your book nook. All liquids used in your book nook design must be completely dry before turning into the library for the show– please no high-odor paints or glues.
- All book nook designs should be family friendly in nature.
- Decorations and models should be secured inside the box. Please do not attach objects to exterior of box as our team of elves may not be able to fit your book nook on shelves for display.
- Please note that the library is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items in the book nooks. Please do not place valuable items in your book nook.
- To be entered into the show, all book nooks must be brought to the Manistee Main Library no later than the end of the day on Dec. 2. Please be sure to fill out the entry sticker on the side of your cardboard box.
- If you would like to have your book nook back after the show, please pick up after Old Christmas Weekend. Our team of elves will recycle and dispose of any book nooks left at the library after January 6.
