When Manistee entrepreneur T.J. Ramsdell donated a rare copy of “The Birds of America” to the library in 1905, the family decided to keep one plate as a momento — the Blue Jay.
Where that particular Blue Jay finally nested is a mystery lost to time…but we’re hoping artists will be inspired to create a mini replacement for the library in our August art show “Blue Jay, Lost and Found.”
- 100 6×8 canvas boards will be given away to kids age 6 and up, teens, and adults to be used as an entry for the art show. To reserve a canvas in advance, please be sure to RSVP according to your age group.
- Blank canvases will be ready for pick up starting June 2.
- Completed entries must be returned to Manistee Main Library main desk no later than July 24. Entry must include completed entry form.
- Any medium can be used, but the canvas board must be able to rest back on a plexiglass book holder as the art will be displayed on our bookshelves using these holders. Framed artwork will not be accepted.
- Entries should be inspired by the “Blue Jay” plate, with a special emphasis on the word inspired. We encourage artists to rethink and remix the Blue Jay in their own style.
- Those entering the art show are not required to attend the Aug. 2 art show reception– but you are invited!
- The medium (art supplies used) must be dry when the canvas board is delivered to the library.
- The library is not responsible for lost or damaged entries.
- The art show will be on display from August 2 to August 16.
- All entries must be picked up by artists between August 18 – September 1. Any art that has been left past September 1 will considered abandoned and shall be discarded, donated or recycled.
- The Artist consents and expressly agrees that Manistee County Library may display the artwork at Manistee Main Library. The Artist also agrees that photographs may be taken of said artwork by Manistee County Library to be used for publicity purposes including social media.
- The Artist agrees that their work is original to the artist and does not infringe upon or violate the copyright of others.
